As you’re probably aware, COVID-19 is still a serious problem. In order to mitigate the dangers of this virus our technicians are practicing COVID secure pest control. We are constantly following the guidelines set out by the British Pest Control Association as strictly as possible. These guidelines ensure that both the health of our technicians and our clients is protected.
COVID secure pest control
COVID-19 is one of the greatest threats that humanity has ever encountered. Every person must do their part to help combat the spread of this virus. To this end we have implemented the following COVID secure pest control measures.
Anyone who is showing symptoms of the virus may not go into work for 7 days. This is extended to 14 days if they are living with someone who has shown symptoms. Before returning to work they must go through a screening process which determines their exposure to the virus. In addition to this we are offering mental health support to employees who need it.
Travelling to and from work
We are making every attempt to prevent employees from using public transport. If they have to use public transport we help them avoid peak times and come in at a safer time. We also try to arrange taxi’s for vulnerable members of staff.
Our technicians who have to use public transport have been briefed on staying safe. They know about the importance of COVID secure pest control and having as little contact with people as possible.
Using work vans
Currently we limit our vans to one technician only. Where this is not possible, we have installed plastic dividers between the driver and passenger seats. We also make sure that our technicians wear face masks and disposable gloves while driving. We make sure to thoroughly wipe down our vans with disinfected before and after use. This includes all areas of the van that they may have touched. When refuelling drivers use contactless payment methods. Finally, our company maintain our vans to reduce the possibility of breakdowns.
Our technicians follow COVID secure pest control guidelines while working. This includes never going on site unless it’s absolutely necessary. It also involves making sure that technicians will be safe when on site and also checking if there are sick or self-isolating people in the vicinity of the site.
This includes avoiding the handling of paper-work or money on site. We have also advised our technicians to avoid eating when working. Ultimately, we are trying to minimise actual contact with clients as much as possible.
Personal protective equipment
One of the most important COVID secure pest control measures is PPE. To this end all workers are outfitted with standard issue PPE. They are also advised to use their PPE as much as possible. PPE is disinfected after use and is never shared between technicians. Health and environment specialists consider single use PPE as clinical waste. Therefore, our staff throw them away after use. We also make sure that technicians are wearing in PPE before arriving on site.
We are enforcing strict social distancing and hygiene rules in our offices and shared workspaces. We log all visits and use plastic screens to separate receptionists from the public. Our managers limit number of employees allowed in the office as much as possible.
Employee access to break rooms and toilets is also limited in order to prevent staff congregating together. We make sure to routinely deep clean our offices including printers, telephones and computers. In order to do this we use industrial strength antiviral cleaning products. Empire also train our staff so that they understand these COVID secure pest control procedures.
