The coronavirus is affecting every aspect of our lives. One of the places where it is causing the most amount of damage is in the London business world. There are very few businesses that haven’t experienced consequences due to this epidemic. From having been forced to close because of lockdown, to facing trading restrictions, London business owners are being heavily affected.
Another factor which is harming businesses is pests. These pests are having highly detrimental effects on business. Due to the fact that many businesses were shut down, pests were being allowed to run riot. Add to this the fact that few humans are around, and it means the situation is far worse than usual.
Here are some of the ways these COVID-19 pests are affecting businesses.
Stocks are being ruined by pests
As businesses have been closed because of lockdown, it means that pests have free reign. If you have stored goods it’s more than likely that pests may have got at them. This can be a serious problem if you have a warehouse. You may have goods worth millions of pounds which have been destroyed by rats or mice.
Another type of London business that has been affected by COVID-19 pests is the restaurant industry. Many food outlets have had to deal with large numbers of pests that have been breeding during this crisis. These pests are also destroying stored food, which can costs restaurants thousands of pounds. This could potentially put these restaurants out of business. What’s more, when these businesses eventually open they will have to spend thousands on pest control.
Pests are damaging London business
Pests numbers have increased during this period. These pests are free to do as they please. This means that pests that cause damage, are causing far more damage than usual. Some of these pests include rodents. Mice and rats can and will chew through anything. They may cause stupendous amounts of damage to your business. In a worst-case scenario, rodents have been known to chew through wires. This can cause electrical fires and could lead to your London business burning down.
You may also have issues caused by birds like pigeons and seagulls. These birds live on the roofs of buildings and may cause massive damage when building their nests. With no one to keep a check on them, it’s more than likely that this damage has exacerbated.
Pests are moving about
Many pests like rats have been forced away from where they usually live. This is mainly due to a lack of food sources. These pests are migrating and it could mean that your business may soon be dealing with an unforeseen pest infestation. This of course will cost you money.
Pest control services were shut down
Due to an enormous lack of foresight by the government, pest control services were shut down. Pest control businesses were deemed non-essential and were no longer operating. It was only after several weeks of intense lobbying that these services were allowed to resume. Unfortunately, it may have been too late. We are only now starting to see how much damage this may have caused for London business.
Bottom line: Due to COVID-19 pests have been left free to breed. They have also been left free to run wild through businesses. This means their numbers may have increased exponentially, and this has had a severe effect on businesses. Cleaning up this mess is going to cost thousands or even millions of pounds, and could even put some people out of businesses.
The fact is, the costs of COVID-19 pests on London business could be astronomical. Ultimately, we may still be counting the cost many years from now.
